About the Business
The owners of The Walnut Tree Hotel are Stephen and Kristine Williams. Following an early retirement Stephen decided to return to his métier, still having the hospitality business in his blood. He'll recount stories of his childhood working up through the kitchen and bars to management. He has previously run hotels in Chichester, Chepstow and Torquay, always priding himself on the quality of service, attention to detail and efficiency. Kristine has taken many roles from restaurant to reception, always providing a friendly, efficient welcome to guests.
During Medieval times North Petherton was more important than either Taunton or Bridgwater by virtue of its elevated position. It's most famous resident was the author Geoffrey Chaucer, known particularly for "The Canterbury Tales", who was banished from Court to become the 'keeper of the King's Forest' at Petherton Park.
There has been an Inn on the site since 1620, when it was known as The New Inn.
