About the Business
On a foggy, damp day in February 1985; Henry, Sylvia and oldest son David, had an appointment to view the Hundred House Hotel, that had been closed for two years. Henry and David saw potential in the place, but Sylvia was somewhat more hesitant. The family had renovated and run the Greyhound in Buckinghamshire, but felt the place too small. It was not until January 6th 1985, that the Phillips family (Henry, Sylvia, David, Stuart and Sophie) began the renovation of the Hundred House and its gardens, opening the bar for business on July 4th the same year. Later that Summer, the restaurant was opened and work began on the rooms above. Henry remembers himself and Sylvia having to dust the restaurant tables every morning, thanks to the banging and dust of the builders above. In January 1987, the rooms were opened.
