About the Business
Situated in the centre of Keswick, The George is the town's oldest coaching inn, carefully restored to its former glory. The hotel consists of a welcoming wood beamed bar, a cosy seating area with an adjoining a-la-carte restaurant and quality accommodation in all of its 12 en-suite bedrooms.
An ancient coaching house, The George in Keswick was the Inn of choice for the Earl of Derwent Water on a journey to join the Jacobite rebellion, from which he never returned. The impression of the 330-year history of the Inn is indisputable, in the heavily beamed rooms full of antique objects and furniture. The bar is perfect for a quiet drink of the local Jennings cask ales, alongside homely fires, which glow through winter nights.
The George offers some of the best food to be found anywhere in Keswick. Traditional food with a modern twist, all dishes are prepared with care and beautifully presented, to be enjoyed in the comfortable dining room.
